In the words of House of Pain,
Just like the prodigal son, I've returned! That's right, I've been busy traveling this month! I've had a few magical adventures, but now I've come back home!
/// SPX REVIEW ///I don't really like talking about personal stuff, mostly because the ladies are more attracted to a strong and silent lonewolf who can't be tamed, such as myself, but this is art-related and more about
other people, SO LETS DO IT!
My two good friends, Ocicatsy
[link] and Wensleydale
[link] were my lovely hosts for the weekend! (And are also the reason I made an account on
the Rura Penthe of the internet LiveJournal!) These girls are really special and do a ton of fabulous collaborative art of their OCs, which I absolutely adore. They just recently finished up a comic for Banjocatbanjo's
Crown Royale anthology
[link], which will be debuting at Yaoi-con! (Speaking of which, I also did a dirty pin-up illustration for this anthology, so watch out for that!) They will also be attending Yaoi-con, which I am really excited about!
Ocicatsy and Wensleydale are super talented and ALSO super sweet. A while back, I stumbled onto their y!galleries and fell in love with their work.. and then preceded to ruthlessly fangirl them until they accepted me into their lives. Um, b-but let's not dote on that shameless deed and focus on some highlights of the con!
The spoils!

SPX was a really great venue! So much that I would love to go again, if not table there. The comic haul was top notch, but combined with the people and artists I met, SPX really cemented itself as an INCREDIBLE experience.
I went to the con very much how I go through life, only knowing a few things and for the greater part being lost, but I knew I had to stop by *
DeannaEchanique's table! She was so beautiful and sweet and glamorous and was totally cool with my creepy stalker ways! I picked up chapter 6 of her La Macchina Bellica comic, which has a beautiful custom cover, and she gave me Perth and Aiden bookmarks! I WAS VERY EXCITED ABOUT THIS! (You can see these sweet acquisitions on the bottom of the photo above)
*
DeannaEchanique was seated on this aisle of pure win, because my con sweetheart, ~
keshii and the
Goodbye Chains ladies, ~
heykidzcomix and ~
TracyWilliams were also there! ~
keshii's table looked gorgeous, as always, and I was so proud to see the whole first issue of
Winters in Lavelle on sale! I also picked up a mini of
Goodbye Chains, which I devoured on the bus ride home. (Speaking of which, the Vamoose bus I took home got into a collision on the highway with a car in front of us. Everyone was okay, but it was a little scary. Also a little surreal, because I was listening to the Pussycat Dolls when the bus started to skid so it's like the accident had this inappropriate sexy soundtrack.)
Alright, this next one takes some story establishment! Last month, I had been in Forbidden Plant, a local comic shop in NYC, and I came across this awesome zine called
fort90 in the indie section. When I opened it, there was a super cute Earthbound graphic on the inside, so I had a feeling my money and I would soon be parted for this zine. As I looked through it some more, I realized it was a masterpiece of documentation about gamer culture of past and present in NYC, and as a native New Yorker, I was thrilled that someone so intelligent and well-written had painstakingly collected information and observations about places and events that seemed to otherwise only been passed on through oral tradition. (The author and creator of the zine also cites a lot of Chinatown haunts were I used to buy bootleg anime tapes, and.. I don't think I had even seen the names of these place committed to
print before, just to give you an idea of how much documentation was lacking and needed on this topic) So needless to say, I loved this zine. While I was browsing around SPX, I see THIS VERY SAME ZINE on a table and suddenly realize, Holy shit, it's HIM! The creator of fort90, Matthew Hawkins! This guy is so cool and so super sweet! I was so thrilled to meet him! He was really friendly and funny and I was totally hogging his time in this daze of sputtering fangirl astonishment! He has so many cool projects and is such a great guy; if you are interested in an awesome blog of game-related info and most excellent commentary, I highly rec his site:
[link] Thank you so much, Matt!
I finally got to meet the mighty Lamar Abrams! I had been hoping to meet him at maybe MoCCA and TCAF but I had no luck! I was so happy to see him at SPX! He was really sweet and charming and signed my issue of
Remake! If you're unfamiliar with his work, he does this amazingly funny series about a superhero called Max Guy, also a ton of really well designed art, which you can find at his website:
[link]This next one, I feel like I need a drumroll, because I met the famous Jess Fink, creator of
Chester 5000 XYV [link] ! She is so,
so kind and loving and holy shit, is she gorgeous. I am pretty sure I was
blushing like a schoolgirl acting really suave in her presence! Oh man, I was so happy to meet her. If it's not too bold of me, I can't help but share this awesome comic she drew about the SPX experience:
[link] Isn't she adorable?! Her blog is hilarious also, so be sure to check out the other strips! I picked up a super cute
Chesty5000 mini, which is quite fortuitous because that short is my favorite! Ah, Jess was such a highlight! Thank you for being so cool!
I picked up a few comics from artists I wasn't familiar with and all in all, it was a great time and an awesome haul!
/// MOSCOW ///
I took a trip to Moscow and it was
fucking amazing. I can't tell you how I used to dream about looking at St. Basil's with my own eyes instead of a picture of it in a travel book.. part of me still can't believe it.
My hosts there were so,
so so amazing and generous and kind and beautiful. I was in good hands and I am forever indebted to them for giving me this incredible opportunity to travel and meet with them. For

, thank you so much! I can't express how much I love you and how happy I am that we got to meet. Thank you!
There is so much more to say about the trip.. but I don't want to embarrass my darlings with publicly displaying my affection for them! I will do that
in private. Oh, yes. I will whisper my sweet broken-Russian nothings in your ear!
/// WHY DON'T YOU POST THE UNCENSORED ///If you want the uncensored version of this drawing

on DA, I'm afraid that won't be happening, as I can't post it here. It's against the rules. That censor is hiding a big alien cock and it is not welcomed in these lands! However, I am working on making a side gallery of the
Starfighter site where I can host all my orphaned dirty drawings. I will make a news update on the site when that happens.
Ah, ok. That WAS A LOT TO WRITE. And a lot to read, so if you finished this behemoth, CONGRATULATIONS!
I hope you are all doing well, my sweethearts!

Thank you so much for your support and your kindness!
