/// COMMISSIONS, ART TRADES, REQUESTS ///
I am so, so sorry but I am unable to participate in either of these due to time constraints! For those who have asked or maybe considered it, I am honored that you thought of me! Thank you!
/// MEDIUMS ///
I mostly draw on an Intuous4 tablet in CS5.
/// ART TRAINING ///
I graduated from SVA with a major in traditional animation. I can do design, motion graphics, and character animation- but now I do webcomics!
/// ARE YOU RUSSIAN? ///
I GET THIS ASK AT LEAST TWICE A DAY. The answer is: no! I do enjoy Russian culture and language but I am not Russian!
/// WHY DOES CAIN SPEAK RUSSIAN? ///
Because he knows this language!
/// CAN I COSPLAY/MAKE FANART? ///
Yes! Oh goodness, yes! It is such a lovely gift and you have my sincere gratitude! I would also be honored if you linked back to me somehow!
/// I WANT TO COSPLAY "____" CHARACTER, DO YOU HAVE REFERENCE? ///
Ooh, I don't have any character turnarounds, however there is a good deal of reference in the actual comic! And if you are not sure about something, please feel free to improvise!
/// WHAT COLORS ARE CAIN AND ABEL'S EYES? ///
They are both black.
/// IS MACHINE A BOY OR A GIRL? ///
This is another ask I get very often, sometimes prefaced by, "Me and my friend made a bet" or "I was arguing with someone about Machine's gender so why don't you clear it up" and, I'm very sorry, but the demand to know a character's gender, especially as a prize, makes me personally uncomfortable so I can't really answer it! (These two options are also based on binary cultural norms and completely exclude other possibilities of gender/non-gender!) It would be my wish that everyone could enjoy this one character regardless of gender.
EDIT: Oops, maybe I should clarify this: I REALLY enjoy discussion of gender and this was not meant to discourage that at all! I have had a few really enjoyable posts on similarities between Girl + Machine and Ripley + Newt over on my tumblr ([link]) and also really enjoy asocialconstruct's breakdown of female characters in sci-fi ([link])! I really enjoy gender exploration and find it fascinating, as such with the Machine character! However, most of these asks I get are not discussions, just "boy or girl, yes or no" questions that feel very stressful. I would love some discussion in it's stead! I hope that clears it up!
/// WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR COMIC PRINTED? ///
Transcontinental Interglobe! They are located in Quebec.
/// ADVICE FOR MAKING COMICS ///
I am not in the position to give anyone advice really, but.. But my suggestion would be to draw what you love and to stick to your guns!
I hope that helps!

..And one for Machine!

I like how candid this answer is. Why not just say, "The gender of character x is not important to this particular story and something I do not want to make definitive because it doesn't need to be?" On its own, I do not think, "What gender is this character?" is a mean-spirited question; it would perhaps be one if the character was a real person, in which case, respecting his, her, or zir privacy would be of the utmost importance. Withholding information simply because it feeds into "binary cultural norms" and makes you uncomfortable is enormously valid, but it's reasonable to be curious about the background of a fictional character or construct.
I appreciate your art and story-telling very much and your online persona is extremely polite, so I do not wish to question you on something that makes you uncomfortable or offends you. I agree it's ideal for a fan to enjoy a character regardless of gender, binary or not, and not to be an ass and insist you give the character a definitive one. However, I do not support the idea of stopping discussion on this particular subject completely. While the questions or the way in which they're asked are annoying, I think the fact you're getting questions at all gives people an opportunity to think about their own assumptions of gender roles and sex. You do not have to a part of this discussion, obviously, but fans have a right to freely discuss and approach a creative work in the way they see fit.
Thank you.
Oh, yes! I could have wrote, "The gender of character x is not important to this particular story and something I do not want to make definitive because it doesn't need to be?" I think that is the general point I was trying to get across with my response!
And certainly no, asking the gender is not necessarily mean-spirited, but as I mentioned, it is often proposed as a bet in addition to only offering the binary choices, "boy or girl", which I do find uncomfortable!
This question was not meant to stop discussion of gender and I apologize if it came off as such because.. I actually really enjoy gender discussion!
Thanks for the input!
Yes, you're right, this was definitely the general point that came across. I understand more fully what you were trying to say.
I tried adding in an edit to that question which hopefully clears up my meaning a little better. But if there's anything else you'd recommend, please let me know.
I am still trying to figure out much of gender identity in relation to the Machine character so I am open to advice.
Thanks again!
